Hey there beauties!
So I've been sitting here for about an hour thinking about what to talk to you all about. I haven't posted in a while due to my hectic schedule and other projects being at a stand still, but today I will talk to you about my struggle with detangling my hair.
I know I am not the only one with this issue. There are so many different detangling methods, but the trick if finding the right method for your hair type. I have 3c/4a frizzy, fine curls. The problem with having fine hair is that its prone to breakage, tangles, & must be treated with more care than most textures. I've mentioned before that it feels like I'm nurturing a child with taking care of my hair sometimes, but I am still determined to continue my growth journey because I see so much potential. Not only is my hair fine, but I also have tight curls that are about 1 or 2 levels away from being koils & kinks. With that being said, my hair is prone to becoming a knotted mess.
There are a few different methods to detangling curly hair. The most popular I've come across are:
- Combing - sectioning off the hair then gently comb each section from ends to roots with a wide tooth comb on damp/wet hair. (its not good to comb dry curly hair) This method isn't favored by many curly girls
- Finger detangling - gently putting apart tangles with you fingers on either dry, damp, or wet hair.
Here is the video that actually saved my hair posted by one of my Youtube faves, Naptural85, demonstrating finger detangling for those who are unfamiliar.
I was inspired to write this post because of my experience detangling today. I don't know what exactly went wrong, but my hair shed like crazy and I noticed a lot of breakage. I've been finger detangling for about a month now with no issues, but after taking down my 3 day old french braids I decided to both finger detangle then use the wide tooth comb to run through my strands for the sake of being thorough. I'm hoping all the hair left in the comb was just from trapped hair that I missed previously. As for the breakage, I think I'm going to just trim my hair on my next wash day to remove what might be dead ends. I'm just hoping for the best at this point.
Anyone have any detangling tips or going through the same curly girl struggle??
